  1. In 1979 I was on a Braniff 747 "flying colors" flight to Germany from Boston. I was just 10 and this was my first flight. We left Boston just as the sun was starting to set, sky was crystal clear. I was in a seat just behind the left wing and was in awe of the view. 45 mins after takeoff the inside engine of the wing I was looking at exploded. I saw large pieces of it fly off and flames poured out of it for just a few seconds. Needless to say I was scared.

The pilot turned the plane back for Boston without saying anything and 1 hour after the explosion I saw land and the pilot announced we were returning to Boston. It was a hard landing but everyone was safe. We stayed at a hotel that night and left the next night at like 10 PM on the SAME plane that had been repaired… I closed the blind the entire flight to Germany.

Weird thing is, I would think there would be a report of this, even though it was so many years ago. Yes no one was injured, but it would just be cool to see the report.

  2. OMG… tears here for the incredible handling both by pilot and staff and, especially the ground controller whose message was as clear as clear can be, “ You have all my attention and everything is being done to bring you in safely !!’

  3. I find her amazing because, most of us women do not have the courage to have such profession, and many other professions. Capt. Tammie is one of a kind, that is it!

  4. OMG her voice is so Sweet, she is a HERO. God Bless You Capt. Tammie, you safe many lives, probably if was other pilot the situation would be totally different.

  5. Giving credit to the pilot and ATC for a fine professional job!!! ATC was "on the ball" in assisting the pilot with everything she needed.

  6. she had an explosive decompression in the cabin at 35k , i hope that was her excuse for descending not an engine fire indication . Air at these extreme altitudes has so much less oxygen its better to burn out a fire above than below . , she had an engine failure , there might have been a fire im not sure. a little blinking light . its odd she didnt declare an inflight emergency , its good the traffic controller inferred one . But in any case she was doing the right things for the wrong reasons . its very good she didnt try to crisis manage the situation and chose to fly the plane. thats good training . no im no airline pilot . yes i have my opinion. yes these are the facts. You can sense the intense stress she was under. she probably never had a fire as se see no burning on the engine . her mask came down just like they did in the cabin and she new and felt a drop in pressure so getting low was essential . its obvious she was getting updates on what was going on in the back. she knew she was not flying in a clean configuration and had to land hot to maintain flight control and she wold need a long runway , she knew 3000 feet the air is dense and she can add or burn off speed at her discretion with best efficiency , we had a good outcome because her goal was to fly the plane only. traffic control knows not to distract her with stupid questions , because of stress she is reporting a passenger went out when asked if she was burning , they need to know if she is on fire

  7. After the engine "apparently" exploded? Look, once the engine is in pieces and people are injured or dead, the engine didn't "apparently" anything. It did do something. Hell, maybe it "allegedly" stopped working.
