Deskripsi video :
How to Create a Mac OS X USB Boot Drive on Windows This tutorial will help you create a bootable USB flash drive for your Mac on a Windows computer.

In order for this to work you should have a USB flash drive. The one I used in my tutorial was 16GB in size, but it will work with any flash drive that is 8GB in size or higher.

Open command prompt as an administrator and enter the following commands to convert your USB drive from MBR to GPT fomat:

list disk

select disk X (where X is the number of your USB flash drive)

convert GPT

create partition primary

Transmac can be downloaded from at

The application costs a one off fee of £59, however you can use Transmac without any restrictions for fifteen days. That’s more than enough time to do what you need to do.

If you search online for “OS X DMG Download” you will find many websites that host the DMG file for your Mac’s operating system. It should be around 6GB in size.

The website I used was Downloading directly from their server was super slow so I downloaded the DMG file via the torrent file available instead.

Once you have your USB boot drive, you can boot up from the drive by inserting the USB drive into your Mac and then pressing the option (⌥) key as soon as your computer loads. This will allow you to select which drive you boot from.

If you see the no/prohibited/forbidden symbol after selecting your USB drive to boot (it’s like a circle with a line through it i.e. ø), try and go back into the recovery area by pressing command and R when your Mac is loading and unmounting the drive.

There is a good discussion about this issue at

Some people had better luck entering into safe mode using command and S – see the discussion at

There is a lot of great information about the prohibited symbol at too.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this so please leave a comment below. As always, if you enjoyed the video, please click like, share, and subscribe 🙂

  2. Thank you for making this video, I’ve been trying to find/ digit myself for days lol…as others have said your the only one to explain this process in a way anyone could understand

  3. I tried doing this method , but when I insert the usb into my macbook pro 2011 late , and then turn on with option key holding , my bootable USB doesnt shows , only the hard drive on my mac shows , i tried doing the steps again too , still no solution

  4. Awesome tutorial. Easy to follow and great description. I wish you would have gone a little farther! I've got this iMac to work on and i'm a PC tech with very little knowledge of mac. The issue I'm having is the same as you described that the drive in the iMac wont boot and disk utility on the machine can't repair the drive. I'm not sure if trying to install the mac os from a USB has some sort of built in drive repair utility or not. Or if I should be downloading something else. If anyone has advice I'd appreciate it. Very hoping the hard drive is ok as the procedure for getting into one of these tapered iMacs looks like a pain in ass!
