  1. Great video Dan! I haven't open my three failing epson 450wi yet but I'm curious if the Field Effect Transistors are defective in the ballast. do you know how many Field Effect Transistors  are in the ballast? From google pictures of the PKP-K230N ballast, I see six screws attached to the metal cover. Can you tell me the part numbers of the Field Effect Transistors? Also if I send you postage through paypal, would you be willing to send me a bad ballast to experiment with? I'm getting my idea from this website:

  2. Hi Dan, great video. I have one one of these projectors in a school I look after that has the 3 lights flashing (Power, Lamp and Temp) According to the manual, this status means "Auto Iris Error / Power Err. (Ballast)"
Not sure what Auto Iris Error part means but would it be fairly safe to assume that I need to replace the Ballast in this projector? I've never attempted anything like this before so will be following your video closely. Also can you confirm the part number I need to search online for is 'PKP-K230N'. Found a few sites that sell this part, similar to the ones in the following link and although they mention other Epson projectors (EB-440, EB-450, EB-455 etc) they don't specify that it is for an Epson 450-Wi projector. Will any of these work since it is the same part number or do I need to find one that specify the EB-450Wi model? Trying to find a competitive price for this online that will ship to Ireland. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Aidan.

  3. hello friend! I just want to know, because I am searching this ballast thru online shops, but somebody told me that there are 2 kinds of pkp-k230n ballast, one is with white label and the other is with yellow label. According to them this is not the same type. can I ask what is the difference between this 2 ballast with the same part number but different color of label?

  4. I did everything you said. I changed the ballast with the exact same part, just new.
But still got the same problem. All 3 LED's flashing. Im thinking, could it be the other part of the PSU?

  5. Thank you for this video. Followed your instructions and when I powered on the projector all was well. When I powered it off, I got the 3 blinking red lights again. Powered projector back on and got the Auto Iris message displaying. Any suggestions please? Has anyone else had this happen? I did take a ballast from another projector (same make/model) that we had stopped using for a different reason. Thank you.

  6. Hi
Do know where the 5 pin connector on the side of tte ballast connects to. Does it connect to power supply or the main board?
On my optoma HD141X there's a side board on the ballast. I have a 5 pin connector on the ballast buy the other end has come off somewhere which I can't find any socket to connect it to.
    Any help wud be appreciated.
